01 — Overview

Context

Signal Audio was launching a crowdfunding campaign for a listening device. They needed identity and a site that felt crafted—not like another glowing-gradient gadget brand.

02 — Problem

The challenge

Early branding leaned on generic tech gradients and failed to communicate craftsmanship or listening culture.

02 — Goals

What success looked like

  • Differentiate from neon consumer-tech tropes
  • Support a crowdfunding narrative with clear product proof
  • Create a flexible system for packaging and campaign ads

03 — Research

How we learned

Brand workshops with founders, audience interviews with audiophile and design-minded buyers, and a visual audit of hardware campaign leaders.

  1. Insight 01

    Craft over glow

Target buyers associated quality with materials and restraint, not luminance effects.

  2. Insight 02

    Proof builds belief

Campaign visitors wanted teardown-adjacent honesty: dimensions, materials, listening scenarios.

  3. Insight 03

    Motion should whisper

Subtle product motion outperformed flashy hero loops in preference tests.

04 — Process

Approach

  1. 01

    Position

Locked a verbal platform: quiet confidence, material honesty.

  2. 02

    Identity

Wordmark, type pairing, monochrome-led palette with one warm accent.

  3. 03

    Site

Campaign landing with story, specs, and pledge CTA hierarchy.

  4. 04

    Extend

Templates for ads, emails, and packaging dielines.

05 — Solution

What we designed

A restrained visual language—typography and materials first—paired with a campaign site that sequences desire, proof, and pledge without carnival motion.

  • 01Monochrome-led identity with warm metal accent
  • 02Product storytelling frames: listen, hold, live with
  • 03Campaign modules reusable for post-funding site

Impact

A restrained visual language and launch site supported a successful crowdfunding campaign and became the base for the post-funding brand site.

07 — Reflection

What I’d carry forward

Hardware brands often shout. Whispering with materials and type made Signal feel premium—and more believable.
